Moon Festival Poetry Competition Conditions of Entry


Information about how to enter and prizes form part of the Conditions of Entry. By entering the Moon Festival Poetry Competition 2020 (the Competition), entrants agree to be bound by these Conditions of Entry.

  1. Poems must refer to the theme Distant Landscapes.
  2. Entries will be considered in three age categories: Children (5 – 12); Teens (13 – 19); Adults (20+). One entry per person.
  3. The Competition commences on 1 October and closes at 5pm on Sunday 1 November 2020. No late entries will be accepted.
  4. The maximum length for each poem submitted is 25 lines (excluding title).
  5. Poems may be either legibly handwritten or typed on A4 paper and may be in English or Chinese.
  6. Each entry must be the original work of the person submitting it, and may not have been previously published, broadcast, awarded any prize or payment or submitted elsewhere. The copyright of each poem remains with the author.
  7. Judging will take place in the week 2 - 16 November 2020 and winners will be notified at the completion.
  8. All entries will be judged anonymously so the entrant’s name should only appear on the attached entry form. Poems without an attached entry form will not be judged.


  1. The winning poems in each category will be recited at the award ceremony. The ceremony will take place in the tea house at Lan Yuan, 2pm on Sunday 29 November 2020.


  1. Prizes include first and second prize in each category. First prize in the Adult category is $150 book shop voucher; second prize is $75 voucher. First prize in the Teen category is $80 voucher; second prize is $40 voucher. First prize in the Child category is $50 voucher; second prize is $30 voucher. All prize winners will also receive an Annual Pass to the Garden worth $21.
  2. The winning poems will be published on the Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden’s website.
  3. To enter the Competition, entrants must send their entries to: Lan Yuan Dunedin Chinese Garden, PO Box 5045, Moray Place, Dunedin 9054. Alternatively entries can be delivered to the Garden’s ticket office, or uploaded to the website
